 Natural Awakenings Lancaster-Berks

Homefields Picnic at the Farm

Picnic at the Farm, an annual outdoor dining event hosted by Homefields from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., September 24, 2023, incorporates organic vegetables, fruits and herbs grown at the Homefields Care Farm. Gates open at 10:30 a.m.

Funds raised support adults with disabilities, help maintain their group homes, provide employment for people with disabilities and preserve farmland. There is a special focus on creating a welcoming and accessible space for people of all abilities and needs, including intellectual developmental disabilities and other neurodiverse conditions.

The picnic features music by the Over Easy Trio, local chefs that host a tasting tent and other local businesses that provide support. Miller’s Smorgasbord will offer sustenance and the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center will sponsor the children's area. A kids’ space is produced by childhood development instructors and teachers where kids under 12 are free, with live music, farm tours and more.

Chef Matt Scalzo, from Cracked Pepper Catering, Erica Joy Bakes and Koshary Station will host a Taste of Homefields tent offering small bites prepared from ingredients grown at the farm. Guests can also play lawn games, take a self-guided tour, visit native plant gardens and snap selfies with a tractor.

Ticket prices include accessible parking, off-street parking, a shuttle and food, drink, beer, wine, a Farmer’s Cocktail and mocktails. Homefields president of the board of directors Allison G. Hawthorne says, “Hang out with good people, enjoy good food and all for a good cause.” Natural Awakenings Lancaster/Berks is a media sponsor.
