A guest of the Parish Resource Center and ASSETS, the Reverend Gregory J. Boyle, SJ, founder of Homeboy Industries, will speak from 7 to 8:30 p.m., November 10, at Hempfield High School Performing Arts Center, in Landisville. Boyle is widely known as the New York Times bestselling author of the books Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion and Barking to the Choir. In his buoyant yet reflective style, Boyle will share his remarkable life experiences and the hope he sees every day.
Fellow authors Elizabeth Gilbert and Anne Lamott share praise for Boyle. “Barking to the Choir is a beautiful and important and soul-transporting book about how to love people––how to really love people––and how to know God when you see God,” shares Gilbert. This is a fantastic book. Please read it.”
“An astonishing book…[Tattoos on the Heart is] about suffering and dignity, death and resurrection, one of my favorite books in years,” says Lamott. “It is lovely and tough and tender beyond my ability to describe and left me in tears of both sorrow and laughter.”
Located in Los Angeles, California, Homeboy Industries is the largest gang intervention, rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world. Former gang members are employed and trained in a range of social enterprises, and critical services are provided to 15,000 men and women that walk through its doors every year seeking a better life.
