The 10th annual African Festival fundraiser, hosted by Rafiki Africa, will be held from 1 to 7 p.m., September 22, in Binns Park, Lancaster. Proceeds benefit the educational, healing and sustainable work of the Rafiki Africa Foundation. The fun, family-friendly event shares African culture through art, food, fashion, music and children’s activities. Cultural performances, as well as a fashion show, will be featured. African food and craft vendors will have selections available for purchase.
The Rafiki Africa Foundation is a nonprofit organization that envisions a community in which individuals and families have the hope and capacity to build and manage conditions that promote optimum health. “By hope, we mean the belief that life is able to be different than it is now. This is not a given in our community,” explains Dorothy Dulo, foundation director. “By capacity, we mean the ability to create change in life. People with skills, education and good credit have more capacity than those without them. We know that this leads to lasting spiritual, emotional, economic, social, physical and environmental transformation.”
