Rodale Institute’s Annual Field Day and Upcoming Events

Rodale Institute’s Annual Field Day will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., July 21. Participants will have the opportunity to interact one-on-one with Rodale Institute experts and learn about a wide variety of organic agriculture research and demonstration projects. Attendees can explore stations set up on the 333 acres by walking or enjoying a leisurely wagon ride from site to site. Class tuition includes lunch and handout materials.

The Midsummer Organic Plant Sale is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 21 and 22. Rodale Institute’s gardening gurus have selected the best varieties of new vegetable seedlings to extend the gardening season well into October. By removing early producing, cold-hearty plants and adding fresh seedlings, a backyard garden can produce a second harvest in the fall. There is no admission fee for this event.

Rodale Institute’s Ninth Annual Organic Apple Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., September 16, giving families the option to pick their own apples in the organic orchard. Visitors are also encouraged to shop from organic vendors, enjoy organic food and beverages, listen to live music and partake in wagon tours and more family-friendly activities. Festival admission is free. Parking is $5 per vehicle.

Field Day cost: $35/person; Organic Farmers Association Members receive 40 percent off. Location: 611 Siegfriedale Rd., Kutztown. For more information, call 610-683-1400 or visit RodaleInstitute.org
