Upohar and Catering by Christina recently announced a business merger, offering new and expanded menus and services. Upohar, meaning “gift” in Bengali, is a social impact restaurant and catering business in Lancaster, serving global fare. Founded and owned by Srirupa Dasgupta, Upohar employs, trains and pays living wages to people experiencing significant barriers to workforce entry (such as newly resettled refugee women), and puts them on a path to economic self-sufficiency. 

Upohar’s Global Flavors catering services specialize in vegan, vegetarian and naturally gluten-free food, and also feature non-vegetarian menu choices. A truly global menu is now being offered, featuring food from the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe. From business lunch packages to custom-designed dinners, Dasgupta and her dedicated staff create the perfect menu to meet client needs. A food truck has also been added to the business, so that service options range from pickups and deliveries to full-service catering, as well as food truck catering. 

Catering by Christina’s stand at Lancaster Central Market has been renamed to Christina’s Criollo. Although it is part of Upohar now, it continues to serve only authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. 

Upohar’s global fare can be sampled during the 2017 Taste the World, Lancaster walking tours in the spring, on second Fridays in downtown Lancaster.
