Coping Kids & Teens Family Support Series at Pathways Center for Grief & Loss

Hospice & Community Care Pathways Center For Grief and Loss will host Coping Kids & Teens Family Support, on Thursdays, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., from January 12 through March 2. The eight-week series is for anyone who has lost a loved one as a result of illness or from a sudden, unexpected death. Prior to enrolling in a series, families attend an assessment to ensure that the support groups will be helpful. Registration is required by December 30.

The Pathways Center recognizes that grief is experienced by the entire family when someone dies. During this series, families gather for a light supper before each group session. Children and teens meet in age-specific groups, while the parents/guardians gather separately to learn how to support grieving children.

All groups are facilitated by master’s-level grief counselors and trained volunteers. The focus is on helping children identify and express their feelings as they share experiences about the death of their loved one. Groups enhance family communication and expand the personal skills needed to cope with and adjust to the intense feelings and challenges that accompany loss and grief.

The Pathways Center is a free resource to the entire community, regardless of whether a loved one is or was a hospice patient.

Location: 4075 Old Harrisburg Pk., Mount Joy. For more information, call 717-391-2413 or 800-924-7610 or visit HospiceAndCommunityCare.org/children-teen/.
