Bamboula Supports Conscious Gift Giving

Since 1989, Bamboula Ltd., in Kutztown, has been an importer and wholesaler of unique gifts that are handcrafted in six African countries. The retail store within the warehouse is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, during the holiday season. Bamboula will also be in attendance at the Christkindlmarkt, in Bethlehem, Thursdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., November 18 through December 18, at booth 15.

Beautifully crafted and functional items available for purchase include tabletop accessories, jewelry, clay pots, ceramic mugs, drums, nativity sets, Christmas ornaments and more. Made with many natural and recycled materials including natural fibers, recycled glass, wood and metal, they highlight Africa’s indigenous artistic talent and draw upon the wealth of traditional motifs and symbolism, as well as the extraordinary color and beauty of the continent.

The purchase of Bamboula’s contemporary, Fair Trade handcrafted products contributes directly to the economic and social well-being of the artisans and their families, who use the money they earn for basic needs such as food, clothing, housing, education and medical services. Jasperdean Kobes, the company’s chief executive officer and owner, developed her passion for Africa when she was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ethiopia many years ago.
