 Natural Awakenings Lancaster-Berks

Exploring Careers Outdoors Camp

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) will hold Exploring Careers Outdoors (ECO) camp, from July 10 through 15. The free, weeklong residential camp, focusing on outdoor careers in recreation, conservation and natural resources, is available to Pennsylvania high school students entering tenth through twelfth grades. The application process is competitive, with a deadline of April 15. Accepted campers will be notified in the beginning of May.

Professional staff from DCNR, including state parks, geology and forestry, act as counselors and educators, exposing students to a variety of careers and outdoor recreation activities while interacting with students on a daily basis. At the conclusion of camp, all campers will receive a mentor that will help them gain DCNR internships, help with job shadowing opportunities or other career-related assistance.

ECO Camp is based out of Kirby Episcopal House, near Wilkes-Barre; however, campers will visit at least four different northeastern Pennsylvania state parks and spend two nights camping.

Location: 381 Sunset Rd., Mountain Top. Download an application at DCNR.State.PA.US/StateParks/EcoCamp. For more information, call 717-425-5330 or email [email protected].
