Creative Writing Summer Camps and Workshops

Melissa Greene, a published fiction writer, poet and professional writing mentor, leads Write From The Heart Creative Writing Workshops for children, teens and adults that emphasize the love of writing, not a cookie-cutter technique. This summer, creative writing camps for children ages 9 to 12 run from July 28 to August 1 and from August 4 to 8, while camps for teens ages 13 to 17 are scheduled from July 14 to 18 and from August 11 to 15; all sessions run from 1 to 3 p.m. Writing camps offer young people a relaxing, one-of-a-kind experience to inspire happier, more confident creative writers, both in school and out.

These writing camps are perfect for children that may long to write, but think they cannot. Classes are gentle and non-intimidating yet challenging and full of life. There are no grades or tests. Participants are diverted from the distractions of competition, stress, technology and hurrying. Free writing is encouraged; perfectionism and writer’s block are reduced with techniques of playfulness, warmth and humor. Greene guides students to enjoy beauty and detail, find writing inspiration in everyday surroundings and appreciate the role of intuition and passion in the creative process.

All classes, camps and workshops take place at Greene’s Lancaster studio, an uplifting, urban-style loft. She will also host a women’s introductory memoir and fiction workshop in July.
