 Natural Awakenings Lancaster-Berks

Lancaster City National Night Out Bicycle Parade

As part of National Night Out, Citizens for a Bicycle Friendly Lancaster and the League of Lancaster Bicyclists are organizing a group ride to visit scheduled block parties in the city as a fun way to encourage safe bicycling techniques and increase the visibility of the bicycling community. The ride begins at 6 p.m., August 5, at Lancaster Square, across from Binn’s Park in the 100 block of North Queen Street. The route will be posted no later than July 30 on the Citizens Facebook page. Participants are encouraged to join the Facebook event page and may sign up to ride to any one or all of the announced neighborhoods.

This organized ride will be styled with a parade-type theme; participants are encouraged to decorate their bicycles with lights and reflectors and wear brightly colored clothing to increase visibility. The League of Lancaster Bicyclists will provide both league-certified cycling instructors and graduates of the League’s Traffic 101 Bicycling Skills course as ride leaders and monitors to ensure participants are able to ride safely and properly to each destination.

The group will ride in accordance with the Pennsylvania State Vehicle Code. All participants will be required to wear a helmet, use headlights and sign a waiver of liability.
