 Natural Awakenings Lancaster-Berks

Free Talks on the Health Hazards of GMOs

Pediatric nutrition consultant Emily Givler, a spokesperson for GMO Free Lancaster, will host a two free lectures on the hidden dangers of genetically modified organisms (GMO) and tips to empower families to make healthier choices. The first discussion, GMOs: Our Food is Not What it Used to Be, will be presented at 1:30 p.m., March 22. The second talk, The Health Hazards of GMOs, will take place 10 a.m., April 22. The location for both events is Health by Design Natural Clinic, in Leola, where Givler has worked since 2010.

Givler says the presence of unlabeled GMOs in foods is cause for concern. “Researchers around the world have linked genetically engineered products to infertility, cancer, organ failure, autism, ADHD, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, food allergies and obesity,” she remarks. GMO Free Lancaster—a grassroots organization that educates the community about the dangers of GMOs and advocates for local, organic food—is contributing to legislative efforts to achieve mandatory labeling of GMOs in Pennsylvania.
