 Natural Awakenings Lancaster-Berks

Spring Creek Farms Provides Organic, Grass-Fed Meat, Eggs and Dairy

Spring Creek Farms is a fifth-generation family dairy farm that has been USDA-certified organic since 1999, providing the highest quality chemical-free, antibiotic-free and hormone-free organic products. The Stricker family began selling raw milk harvested from 100 percent grass-fed cows in 2007. Since then, they have expanded to supply beef, cheese and butter from 100 percent grass-fed cows, as well as chicken and eggs from free-range chickens fed a soy-free diet.

“Our farming techniques mimic nature as much as possible,” explains Greg Stricker, vice president of Spring Creek Farms. “A bird has the gizzard required to effectively digest grain. However, a cow does not have any organ that will digest grain well, so the cows are 100 percent grass fed. Cows and chickens are moved to new pasture every day during the growing season. The technique called taller grazing reaps tremendous soil and environmental benefits. Keeping the farm in perennial grasses virtually eliminates soil erosion and builds the soil carbon sequestration. In 10 years, Spring Creek Farms has doubled the amount of carbon stored in the top 12 inches of soil by giving the grass adequate rest between grazing events and leaving longer residue to shade the soil and feed the soil microbes.”
