Through My Garden Gate, located in Temple, is the new home of the Berks Reiki Clinic. To introduce people to the benefits of Reiki, the clinic offers 25-minute Reiki treatments given by certified practitioners that volunteer for the service. Appointments are required for the sessions, which run monthly from 6 to 8:30 p.m., the first Thursday, and from 2 to 4:30 p.m., the third Sunday. A $5 donation is suggested for each session, but no one is turned away for lack of funds. Additional volunteers are welcome to join.

According to its proponents, Reiki is a non-invasive, healing modality that promotes relaxation, enhances the body's natural healing abilities and fosters mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Based on the idea of an energy field that permeates the human body, Reiki is intended to restore order to the body when energy has become unbalanced. The modality does not replace, but is easily integrated with, any medical treatment and therapies.
