Opportunity House Hosts 11th Annual Souper Bowl

Opportunity House of Berks County will host its 11th annual Souper Bowl, May 6, at Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex, in Wyomissing. Opportunity House—a multi-service organization dedicated to improving the quality of life and achieving self-sufficiency among families and individuals that face obstacles to independent living—holds the event to increase awareness of hunger and homelessness and to raise funds for its programs. A preview party with refreshments and priority bowl selection begins at 4:30 p.m. and doors open for the evening’s main event at 5:30 p.m.

At the door, attendees choose from more than 1,000 handmade ceramic bowls donated by professional and amateur potters. Making the bowls is a yearlong community project for local art studios—including Clay on Main, Busy Bee’s Pottery and Art Studio and Goggleworks Center for the Arts—that volunteer to make the bowls. More than 40 local restaurants and companies donate food and beverages for the light supper of soups, breads and desserts—a meal that’s considered a feast by those that are hungry. The silent auction features bowls created by professional potters.

Cost: main event $25/advance or $30/door; preview party $75. Tickets are available locally at Boscov’s Department Stores (courtesy desk), or by visiting the Donate Now link at Opphouse.org. Location: 3103 Paper Mill Rd., Wyomissing. For more information, call 610-374-4696, ext. 226 or e-mail [email protected].
