Girls On The Run to Hold Spring 5K at F&M College

Spreading the message that running is good for a girl’s health and for her self-esteem, Girls On The Run (GOTR) of Lancaster, along with Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster, will host their annual Spring 5K run at Franklin and Marshall (F&M) College, at 9 a.m., May 18. This non-competitive event is the culmination of a 10-week curriculum that helps prepare the girls for a lifetime of healthy living. Funds raised from the event will support the GOTR scholarship fund that enables every girl to participate in the program, regardless of financial limitations.

Started in 2009, GOTR of Lancaster is an independent council of GOTR International, a nonprofit, founded in 1996, that introduces girls in grades three through eight to the benefits of running, while incorporating education and guidance in life skills and mentoring relationships.

The GOTR 5K is not just for girls; it is open to community participation and welcomes runners, walkers and all volunteers on race day. This year’s event will feature 660 girls on 54 teams for the 3.1-mile course. Each young contestant must run with an adult, and participants are encouraged to register as teams of five or more friends, neighbors or co-workers.

Location: Franklin and Marshall College campus, Harrisburg Ave., Lancaster. For more information, email [email protected] or visit GotrLancaster.org.
