 Natural Awakenings Lancaster-Berks

Deer Creek Herb Farm Celebrates 20 Years

Deer Creek Herb Farm owners Kathy and Jesse Lesher, of Reading, will celebrate their 20th year in business by leading 20 workshops throughout the year, including Herb Gardening for Beginners, Raw Juicing and Smoothies, Herbal Breads and Making Herbal Lotions. The Leshers’ Country Store Gift Shop will be featured on the Lancaster County Best Kept Secrets Tour, from April 12 to 27. The tour features 35 off-the-beaten-path businesses, chosen for their uniqueness, and a percentage of the sale of each tour ticket is donated to the Domestic Violence Services of Lancaster County.

From its initial 65 herb varieties, the farm has expanded to cultivate more than 325 types of herbs and 100 varieties of hostas (edible, shade-tolerant foliage plants). Herbs are grown at the farm using organic potting soil and fertilizer. During the summer months, herbs are grown, harvested and dried to create wreaths and swags later in the year; custom orders are accepted. During the holiday season, Deer Creek Farm specializes in custom holiday orders, including evergreen wreaths and decorations, all made fresh at the farm.

In addition to Deer Creek Herb Farm’s workshops, Kathy speaks upon request about a variety of herb-related topics to groups at the farm and other locations.

Tour cost: $7 Location: 3721 Deer Creek Rd., Reading. For more information, call 610-775-4504, email [email protected] or register at DeerCreekHerbFarm.com.
