Sierra Club 5K Trail Run/Hike to Help Polar Bears

The Lancaster group of the Sierra Club’s Pennsylvania Chapter is accepting registrations for its third annual Polar Bear 5K (3.1 miles) Trail Run/Hike. The event will begin at 10 a.m., January 19, in scenic Lancaster County Central Park, and will follow the same route as last year; participants can expect well-maintained trails with a few hills. Race day registration and check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the park’s Pavilion 22 (Kiwanis Lodge).

Proceeds from the race support efforts to stop the progress of global warming and mitigate its effects in order to preserve the survival of polar bears and other creatures that are at risk of extinction. Non-racers are welcome to volunteer to help or make donations. By running, hiking or helping with this race, participants can join the campaign to Make Tracks for Change. Last year’s event was a huge success, attracting 75 runners and hikers.

Cost: $20 to register by Jan. 2; $25 afterwards; preregistered entrants receive event T-shirt while supplies last. Location: 1050 Rockford Rd., Lancaster. For more information or to register, call 717-892-2026, email [email protected], or visit LancasterSierraClub.org.
