New Owners, Same Multi-Cultural Focus, at Earth Rhythms

Earth Rhythms, in West Reading, is offering weekly group lessons in hand drumming, led by master percussionist and recording artist Pete Barnhart, who has drummed for more than 30 years. The group meets every Tuesday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m.; no experience is necessary. Participants can bring their own drums or borrow one from the shop; the class features djembe, djun-djun, shakers, bells and more. A great way for beginners to meet and mingle with experienced drummers, the weekly event builds community in a fun and supportive environment.

Owner Lisa Fairman has continued the store’s multi-cultural focus with myriad drumming experiences and unique merchandise. The global marketplace offers a mix of imported and American-made products, including hand drums and percussion instruments for adults and children; Tibetan and crystal singing bowls and gongs; deity statues; incense; tapestries; clothing; and CDs, books and vintage art.

Fairman says, “I am so grateful for the support of the wonderful customers who come to the shop… people from all over the world share their stories…it makes it easy to see how we are all connected in our humanity.”
