Kitchen Table Art: Making Plant Prints
Learn how to use leaves, seeds, fruits, and more to create vibrant, expressive works of art!
Connect with nature through the art of plant printing. The beautiful, often surprising results of handmade plant prints are satisfying to the eye, easy and enjoyable to create, and provide a fun, tactile way to hone our botany and plant ID skills by working closely with the flora around us. In addition to plant arts like dyeing and fiber-making, printing with plants reveals the scope of inspiration that comes from the natural world.
Using simple materials like crayons, watercolor, ink pads, and collected plant materials, you’ll learn ways to creatively record and preserve the details of plants from the wild to your garden. In doing so, you'll get to create your own take-home pieces to keep or share as gifts with friends and family!
Aside from making the prints, we will discuss how to prepare plants to print and what makes a good plant to print from. We’ll also demonstrate how to turn plant prints into functional items such as bookmarks, note cards, or or how to incorporate plant printing into a nature journal.
Absolutely no experience is necessary to join this fun and exploratory class! From artists looking to expand their mediums to outdoor enthusiasts seeking to connect in new ways, to couples, friends, and family looking for a unique and collaborative outing, there’s something for everyone in creating art from nature!
