 Natural Awakenings Lancaster-Berks

Companion Planting

If we look to the natural world, rarely do we see plants growing only with their own kind. It is much more common to see a diverse array of species growing side by side in communities that function better as a whole. By mimicking this in our own gardens, we can often take advantage of the many benefits this kind of system has to offer - from more efficient use of space, to certain plants gaining benefit or protection from others, and even a much more aesthetically pleasing view of the garden as color and shapes blend together - painting a very different picture of what growing food can look like.

We’ll discuss (and see in the field) some examples of plants that do well together, explore different kinds of plant guilds, and talk tips and tricks to making this happen in your own garden.

Portions of our time will be held in both the classroom and the field, rain or shine - dress for the weather.
