Amazyngly vibrant beauty treatments, attention to detail and dedication to people and the environment--that’s what Tia Mazy offers at her eco-friendly salon, Amazyng Style. With a mission to offer affordable, green and healthy lifestyle options to clients and customers, the salon specializes in organic hair color and natural cosmetics that are vegan and ammonia-free. Pledging to be as chemical-free, organic, sustainable, eco-friendly and green as possible, Mazy believes that her customers’ needs, wants and health are of the utmost importance.
Traditional salon coloring and curling products often are tested on animals and made with harmful ingredients such as ammonia and formaldehyde. Mazy developed asthmatic symptoms and contact dermatitis from using them, which prompted her to research organic and natural professional hair products. She discovered Organic Color Sys- tems—organic, vegan and 100-percent, ammonia-free color—and their wet product line, Organic Salon Systems. For the same price as the average cost of using traditional salon products, these treatments obtain desired results without health hazards. Switching to them allowed Mazy to be true to her mission.
Through her research, Mazy located the cosmetic lines 100% Pure and Honeybee Gardens, which are free from toxic, synthetic and petroleum ingredients and animal testing. Makeup application is popular for prom-goers, wedding parties and girls’ birthday parties.
Mazy is as passionate about community outreach and helping othersas she is about the products she uses. Vegans and cancer patients recovering from chemotherapy seek out her services, knowing they can trust the integrity of the products. For the past six years, Mazy has worked with the American Cancer Society to do wig fittings. She is also involved with the free, national service program, Look Good... Feel Better, created to help individuals with cancer look good, better their self-esteem and feel more confident during treatment and recovery. When the hair of a cancer survivor begins to grow again, Mazy uses organic colorto enhance the shine and help with the changing texture of new hair growth that may be frizzy.
The commitment to a green mission extends to Mazy’s sustainable business practices. The salon uses collected rainwater to nourish the flower and vegetable gardens surrounding the salon and hair clippings are used inthe gardens to ward off pests naturally. Mazy is also collecting hair to ship to a California company that works to clean up oil spills in eco-friendly ways.
Mazy says that one of the greatest compliments a patron can offer is, “This salon doesn't smell like a hair salon." The goal, and most importantly, what brings Mazy happiness, is "educating people to live happier, healthier lives leading to a happier, healthier Earth." Helping people live naturally beautiful lives is part of the Amazyng Style experience.
