 Natural Awakenings Lancaster-Berks

Summer Camp Will Expose Young People to Mud and Fun

Gayatri Wellness, in Bernville, will host a weeklong gathering for adolescents called Terra Leadership Camp (TLC) this month, to enable them to connect to the natural world in a setting near the Appalachian Trail, in Berks County. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., from June 17 through June 21. The camp promises a positive learning environment that engages leadership, group dynamics, stewardship and positive communication through games, yoga, art, biology, hiking, gardening and outdoor education.

Gayatri Wellness was founded by Lucine and Eric Mackow to promote self-care through programs of yoga, sustainable agriculture and nature therapy. The center organized the camp to introduce skills and ideas to battle a condition called nature deficit disorder, which has been identified and studied as a contributor to excess weight gain, long-term unhealthy lifestyle habits and poor interpersonal relationship skills, as technology replaces playing outdoors and interacting with other children.

Immediate family members of the campers will receive free entry to the closing ceremonies of the Gayatri Wellness Summer Solstice Event, during which the youngsters will have an opportunity to display the new skills they learned at TLC.

Cost: $100 per child. Location: 106 Sunset Dr., Bernville. For more information, call 484-706-3035, email [email protected] or visit GayatriWellness.com
