Contemplative Prayer on Zoom: Meditation Fridays 6:45 AM
at the Urban Well--a source for contemplative practices
People of all backgrounds and from many faith communities meet on Zoom to practice what is known as contemplative prayer and Christian meditation. The discipline and practice of daily Christian meditation began in the desert tradition of early Christianity in the 4th century and gained world-wide attention through the life and ministry of John Main OSB (1926-1982) and the work of those to whom he ministered. The World Community for Christian Meditation, of which the Urban Well at Saint James is a member, grew from his work and continues to express the truth of John Main’s insight for our time. A meditation session includes a daily reading by John Main, a simple chant (Taize model), and a 25-30 minute silent meditation.
