 Natural Awakenings Lancaster-Berks

Encaustic Collage

Encaustic involves the sweet scents of beeswax and resin, combined with pigments, collage elements, and more to create a uniquely archival piece that echoes encaustic work created more than 2,000 years ago.

Discover the techniques and traditions of an ancient art brought to life in contemporary ways. Encaustic involves the sweet scents of beeswax and resin, combined with pigments, collage elements, and more to create a uniquely archival piece that echoes encaustic work created more than 2,000 years ago. Bring personal items to be included in your work as we ‘build’ a collaged piece. Personal collage items include paper elements, natural objects, and any object that is porous enough to accept molten wax (think absorbent). Experiment with the instant gratification of working with wax as we pour, scrape, brush, and manipulate our way to a luscious finished work. Learn the history of why this ‘hot’ process nearly disappeared, and the artists responsible for it’s rebirth as a medium. Course price includes fees for additional supplies that will be provided.
